Research and Grant Proposals

TCD, Townsend Chemical Division is proud to support the research and advancement of integrated vegetation
management solutions that improve the quality and efficiency of herbicide practices and land management programs.

TCD supports the research and development efforts of universities, non-profit organizations, government agencies,
and private industries associated with vegetation control, right-of-ways, and habitat management through product
donations, service agreements, and research grants.

Research grant proposals submitted to TCD are reviewed for their merit as to concerns in the advancement of
vegetation management practices, environmental stewardship, and herbicide use.  When constructing proposals to
be submitted for review please consider the following criteria:

  • The research proposals must be of industrial importance and high scientific merit as to concerns in the
advancement of the vegetation management profession.  It is the investigator’s obligation to explain the
significance of the proposed project and highlight the impact it will have on vegetation management,
    environmental stewardship, and herbicide use.

  • The proposed investigator must be appropriately qualified by virtue of training, licenses, research experience,
and professional record.  Each of the investigators must include a resume or CV with a summary of their
    responsibilities in the proposed project.

  • Proposals should also include a detailed budget of both TOTAL project cost and REQUESTED expenses.
Budgets should include all pertinent project expenses and matching money, other grant monies, and in-kind
donations. Budget requests for travel should include estimates of actual expenses related specifically to the
project.  In general, use of personal vehicles will be reimbursed for fuel costs only, and necessary use of
commercial or institutional vehicles will be reimbursed at the rate charged to the investigator.

  • TCD will not pay overhead expenses associated with research projects. Funds can be advanced to universities,
non-profit organizations, and industrial partners only after assurance that all funds will be directed toward
project cost, supplies, and salaries directly related to the on the ground operation of the project.  TCD requires
research facilities and investigators to provide an annual summary of spending and a detailed account of actual
expenses and overages upon our request.

  • Proposals can be submitted to TCD at anytime for review.  Those proposals that combine resources from
multiple funding sources and focus on producing practical improvements to the vegetation management industry
have the greatest chance for support.
